Sunday, May 31, 2015, many faithful believers of the Parish of Asbestos Conception of the Virgin of Thessaloniki, celebrated in the multinational liturgy the coming of the Holy Spirit and the gift of 40 years of priesthood of Fr. Janusz Zwolinski.
During the offering, representatives from all institutions and organizations of the Parish approached the altar to offer along with the Eucharistic Gifts, Gifts of gratitude to Fr. Janusz, who for 10 years has never ceased to work and care about this community.
Fr. Janusz Zwolinski, CM, on May 31, 1975 in Krakow (Poland), was ordained priest of the Community of the Fathers Lazarists (Fathers of the Mission). After his ordination, Fr. Janusz went to Africa (DRC) where he stayed for 27 years, always working with zeal and love as a pastor and chaplain, teacher and administrator of the Lazarists’ Seminaries and fulfilling duties of Vicar General of the Archdiocese Mvandaka-Bikoro and Abbot of the Province of Congo.
In 2005, in a difficult time for the community of Thessaloniki, Fr. Janusz agreed to come to Greece and work next to, sick at the time, Fr. Michael Daleziou. Within a short time, he undertook the duties of a Vicar where in this position, he remained for seven years with unrelenting interest.
Today as supervisor and manager of the Community of the Fathers Lazarists, he continues with the same boldness to offer himself as General Vicar of the Apostolic Vicariate of Thessaloniki and as Liturgist at the Parishes of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (Kavala – Xanthi – Alexandroupolis).
There are three more priests in Fathers Lazarists’ Community in Thessaloniki: Fr. Jerzy Owsiak from Poland, vicar of the Parish, Fr. John Louvaris, the only Greek who, for many years, works in the field of ecumenism, and Fr. Agapit Ebiagena from Cameroon, Parson assistant and head of Youth.
